Exodus Wallet Review: The Softest Landing Out of an Exchange

Multi-chain support, real customer support and an interface a beginner can read. The cost is hidden inside the swap spread.

Exodus has spent a decade optimising for one user: the person who has just decided that leaving coins on an exchange is unwise and has no interest in becoming a systems administrator to fix it. Judged against that brief, it is very good.

Usability

Assets across a long list of chains appear without manual RPC entry, the portfolio view is legible, and the desktop and mobile builds behave identically. In our testing a first-time user completed setup, received a transfer and sent a payment without assistance in under fifteen minutes.

The presence of human customer support is genuinely unusual in self-custody and worth weighting if you are recommending a wallet to family.

The cost of convenience

In-app swaps are priced as a spread rather than a stated fee. On the pairs we sampled the effective cost was consistently above what the same trade cost through an aggregator, and the interface does not make that difference visible. Parts of the stack also remain closed source, which puts a ceiling on how far a security-first reader should trust it with a large balance.

Verdict: 4 out of 5

An excellent first self-custody wallet and a reasonable everyday hot wallet. Move long-term holdings to hardware, and route larger swaps somewhere you can see the price.

Tested for three weeks on macOS, Windows and iOS.
